Night Light Reaches 25,000 views

This picture in particular has captured the attention of many people in good ways and some in bad ways. I have received comments that range from best picture ever seen to people calling me a fraud for using multiple exposures to make this shot.

In the beginning I took the criticisms very harsh but through fellow photographers, family and friends support, I realized the shot is a representative of what I saw that awesome night and how I wanted my viewers to see it.

The shot was taken by my IR camera with four exposures. One exposure for the moon, one for the stars, one for the clouds and one for the cityscape. There is a lot of hype about how pictures should be represented. SOC or straight out of camera seems to be the worst perception of how a picture should be produced.

No matter if a shot was made by digital or film, there is no such thing as SOC that has not been tweaked by either in-camera software settings(shooting in JPEG) or post processing from a RAW file. I will not get into the particulars right now since it would take pages to explain. Just know when someone is hyping up their picture by stating it was SOC so somehow they are a great photographer, you will now know that they are full of it or just full of themselves.

Enjoy a few quotes from one man that changed photography forever.

"When I'm ready to make a photograph, I think I quite obviously see in my minds eye something that is not literally there in the true meaning of the word. I'm interested in something which is built up from within, rather than just extracted from without."

"You don't take a photograph, you make it."

"No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit."

Ansel Adams
